The 3 grand constructions, in diverse forms, lay the centre of Wangjing District, the new exurb in northeast Beijing. A previous suburb though, with farmers planting their lands, Wangjing has been transformed to a complex for new rich, science/technology elites, stars, young people, and international migrants, Koreans in particular.

It is a childish little monster, hides or reveals itself, I feel myself entering Truburaya Eiji’s 1966 Ultraman Series.

Wangjing SOHO is one of the many signature buildings in cosmopolitans of contemporary China, in the post-2008 Beijing Olympic era. Designed by Zaha Hadid, the respectable British Iraqi architect whose pass-away recently has ignited big yearnings from her Chinese fans, Wangjing SOHO finely bears her signature style, the absurd, cranky, high technical, futurism monsters inviting shocks, imaginations, explorations for possibilities. The location of the SOHO is also tricky, it is surrounded by a series of real estates, the search for it is like a hide-and-seek journey, the building is like a childish little monster, hides or reveals itself, until you discover its real face. It’s a multi-faced ultraman, I feel myself entering the Truburaya Eiji (円谷英二)’s 1966 Ultraman Series (ウルトラシリーズ).
